Opening of the school as a Colegio for boys

1912

Recognition by the government of the various courses offered as prescribed by the Secretary of Public Instruction.

1917

Formal incorporation of the school under the name “Colegio de San Agustin Iloilo”.

Opening of the College of Liberal Arts

Opening of the College of Commerce

Opening of the College of Education and admission of female students for the first time.

Re-opening of the non-commercial DYSA-AM/FM Station, the first of its kind in Iloilo, after its demise during the early years of Martial Law

Organization of the Board of Trustees, the highest policy-making body of the University

Accreditation of the College of Liberal Arts – the first to be accredited in Western Visayas – by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU)

PAASCU accreditation of the College of Law – the first Law School in the Philippines to be accredited – making it one of PAASCU’s pilot schools in legal education

Inauguration of the Tilipunan Community Center (the University’s community outreach project)

Institutionalization of the granting of Service Awards to personnel

Placing of the University under the administration of the newly-created Augustinian Province of Sto.Niño de Cebu, Philippines.

Opening of the Computer Department

1995

Transfer of the USA High School to the Extension Campus in Sambag, Jaro

1996

Turn-over of the Alumni Building ownership to USA by the USA Alumni Association.

 

Opening of the University Coordinating Center for Research and Publications

   

2000

PAASCU accreditation of the Graduate School

Inauguration of the four research institutes: Institute for Augustinian Studies, Villanova Institute for Social Research and Cultural Studies, Mendel Institute for Science and Technology Research, and, Institute for Social Development Issues and Initiatives

Renaming of three Colleges:

College of Commerce as College of Commerce and Accountancy;

College of Liberal Arts as College of Arts and Sciences; and

College of Technology as College of Engineering and Architecture

Opening of the Martin de Rada Human Rights Desk, the Center for Alternative Law, and the Fray Luis de Leon Creative Writing Desk

Recognition of Dr. Isidoro M. Cruz, Humanities Department Chair, as Palanca First Prize Winner for Poetry

Grand Centennial Celebration of the University’s Foundation

Recognition of Dr. Isidoro M. Cruz, Humanities Department Chair, as National Book Awardee for Literary Criticism.

Offering of new academic programs: Graduate Diploma in Public Policy, Master of Arts in Special Education, Master of Arts in Teaching Philosophy, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in e-Commerce, Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Advertising, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, Master of Arts in Education-Pre-school.

Granting of a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) registration permit by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology to offer a two- year Pharmacy Technician Program

2007

Signing of MOA between the University of San Agustin and the West Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City making the latter the base hospital of the University’s College of Nursing

45th anniversary celebration of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and Mu Sigma Phi Sorority, the first Greek letter society to have been recognized in the University of San Agustin

60th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology

   

2008

Recognition of the Martin de Rada Human Rights Bureau as APAC Justice and Peace Awardee for exemplary performance in human rights protection and promotion

   

2009

Extension of the autonomous status of the University of San Agustin

PAASCU accreditation of the Arts and Sciences, Education, and, Medical Technology programs of the University

Jaylord Losabia, graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in General Education Curriculum, as top 1 in the Licensure Examination for Teachers

Confirmation of the Level III status of the College of Education (CoED) by the Federation for Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP)

Opening of the only Virtual Laboratory in Panay at the College of Nursing

Launching of “The Union,” official newsletter of the University of San Agustin Employees Union

Recognition of the USA Kawilihan Dance Troupe as Ani ng Dangal Awardee by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Office of the President

Identification of the College of Education (elementary and secondary education programs) as a Center of Development (COD) for Teacher Education in Western Visayas by the CHED

Recognition of Ms. Lerma L. Paris, College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology Dean, as PAMET’s “Most Outstanding Medical Technologist” in the country

Recognition of Dr. Lilia S. Teves, Nutrition and Dietetics Department Head, as 2010 Nutritionist-Dietitian Awardee by the Nuritionists-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines (NDAP)

Conferment of the Outstanding Law School Award to the USA College of Law by the Legal Education Board (LEB) for being one of the top ten Best Performing Law Schools in the country; and of the Outstanding Law Dean Award to Atty. Juana Judita Panigbatan-Nafarrete, College of Law Dean

The USA College of Law as recipient of a Mayor’s Citation for being one of the top 10 Best Performing Law Schools in the country

Ms. Lerma L.Paris, College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology Dean, chosen as the Most Outstanding Professional in the field of Medical Technology by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC)

The Augustinian named as the Best Publication at the College Press Awards

Renaming of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy into College of Management and Accountancy (CMA), and, the transfer of Tourism Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Culinary Arts programs to CMA

Designation of the College of Education, as Center of Training and Center of Development, by the Department of Education to conduct the mass training of teachers of Values Education and MAPEH from all over Panay and Guimaras islands on the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum for Grade 8

Ms. Erika Jiline Mallari Jamandre as first placer in the March 2014 Medical Technologist Licensure Examination

Designation of the College of Education, as Center of Training and Center of Development, by the Department of Education to conduct the mass training of teachers of Filipino and MAPEH from all over Panay and Guimaras islands on the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum for Grade 9.

Separation of the General Education program from the College of Arts and Sciences, making it into an independent department, the pre-cursor of the USA Senior High School in the K to 12 program; appointment of Dr. Nelida Orquinaza as the first Director of the General Education Department.

Hosting by the University of the Visitation and Veneration of the Relics of Saints Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II
