Dr. Noe D. Bataga, a Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians will be the speaker during the 6th Summer Term Commencement Exercises of the University of San Agustin (USA) this Saturday, 30 May 2015.
A native of Balasan, Iloilo, Bataga finished his BS in Medical Technology as a PAMET Safeguard Scholar from the University of San Agustin in 1999. After graduating, he pursued his post graduate studies at West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Medicine (2002-2006). He also finished post graduate training in Radioisotopes Techniques (Medical) at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute – Department of Science and Technology (2013) and a Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the UP - Philippine General Hospital (2015).
He joined the academe in 1999, serving as Instructor II at the USA Department of Chemistry and Biological Sciences. He also served as Physician of Hartman Dialysis Center – Iloilo City (2011-2012) and as visiting Consultant (2011-2013) at the Department of Internal Medicine of WVSU Medical Center, The Medical City – Iloilo, and St. Therese MTC Hospital Iloilo City. Presently, he is a Consultant at WVSU Medical Center, Medicus Medical Center, QualiMed Hospital – Iloilo, and The Medical City - Iloilo.
Bataga is a registered Medical Technologist and Physician, a Diplomate of the Philippine College of Physicians, and the Philippine Specialty Boards in Internal Medicine. His professional society memberships include the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Philippine Medical Association, Iloilo Medical Society, Philippine Thyroid Association, Diabetes Philippines and Philippine Association of Medical Technologists.
Bataga has written the following scientific papers: “Bilateral Pheochromocytoma in a 40-year Old Male presenting with Abdominal Pain”, “Effects of TAS Guidelines in the Management of HAP/VAP Among Patients at West Visayas Medical Center” and “Association of Polypharmacy on Glycemic Control and Health-related Quality of Life among Elderly Diabetics seen at UP-PGH Out-patient Department.”.
Bataga will address more than three hundred graduating students of the University of San Agustin in a ceremony scheduled at 5:00 P.M. at the University Athletic Field on 30 May. A Baccalaureate Mass, to be attended by the graduating class, their parents and mentors, is set at 7:00 o’clock in the morning of 29 May at the USA Chapel. (USA PEAR)

The 111 year old University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City is hosting the mass training for Grade 10 Teachers of the K to 12 Basic Education Program in MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health) and Filipino this summer 2015. The training for MAPEH teachers was held on 11-15 May 2015; that for Filipino teachers is being held from 18 to 22 May 2015.
More than 1,200 grade school teachers coming from various divisions of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Panay and Guimaras are attending the training being conducted at the University Auditorium housed at the Urdaneta Hall. Also in attendance are Dr. Gemma Ledesma, DepEd Regional Director, Dr. John Arnold Siena, National Educators Academy of the Philippines Director, Dr. Julieta Braga, DepEd Regional Supervisor for MAPEH and Mrs. Ma. Fe Sumaculub, DepEd Music and Arts Division Supervisor
Fr. Frederick C. Comendador, O.S.A., USA President, in his welcome message said, “We would like to take our hats off to all of you, our dear teachers, for your dedication to your vocation – to your calling as educators. We salute you for your sacrifices, and commend you for your openness to learn new things, and when appropriate, re-learn or unlearn some things. We salute you for embracing change.”
“We are very happy that the Department of Education has once again tapped the expertise of the University, the College of Education in particular, for this training,” said Dr. Belinda Valaquio, Dean of the USA College of Education. The College takes pride as the only Center of Development in Teachers Education in Region 6, and the Department of Education’s Center for Training Institution for INSET Programs. The year 2015 marks the celebration of three events of utmost importance not only to the Augustinian Order (OSA), but to the entire Filipino nation as well – namely, the 450th anniversary of the finding (“kaplag” in Cebuano) of the miraculous image of the Sto. Niño de Cebu (1565-2015), the 450th anniversary of the Augustinian presence in the Philippines (1565-2015), and the 50th anniversary of the elevation of the Sto. Niño Church in Cebu City to the rank of a “minor basilica” (1965-2015).
In line with the above-mentioned events, a commemorative book (entitled “Kaplag 2015”) was published by the Augustinian Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu – Philippines, edited by Fr. Czar Emmanuel Alvarez, OSA. THE University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City will co-host with De La Salle University (DLSU) this year’s KRITIKA, the national workshop on art and art criticism on May 4 -7, in the USA President’s Conference Room.
KRITIKA is a summer workshop in criticism, covering various arts and culture, including architecture, literature, visual arts, film, theatre, multi-art, popular culture, and gastronomy. In this one-week live-in workshop, established art critics and talented young scholars gather to form an intellectual community. In line with contemporary critical practice, KRITIKA retains interdisciplinal and multidisciplinal ways of approaching art and cultural forms as texts. This practice is enriched with the creative integration of concepts and modes from diverse disciplines.
Rolando Tolentino, cultural critic and Dean of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication, is the workshop director.
He is supported by a distinguished panel of experts which includes: urban design and landscape architect Paulo Alcazaren, cultural critic and educator Isagani R. Cruz, literature scholar Isidoro M. Cruz, heritage conservationist Rene Luis Mata, visual art critic and artist Cid Reyes, culinary expert and visual artist Claude Tayag, and cultural historian Jose Victor Torres.
Chosen as the 2015 fellows are: Vijae Orquia Alquisola (literature/cultural heritage), Jose Santos P. Ardivilla (pop culture), Gregory Mark Del Carmen (pop culture), Olivia Kristine Nieto (theatre), Seneca N. Pellano (literature), Tito R. Quiling, Jr. (film/architecture), Juan Miguel Leandro L. Quizon (cultural studies), Guillermo Ramos, Jr. (gastronomy), Angela Velasco (gastronomy), and Mavreen Jackie Yapchiongco (literature/architecture).
This project is organized by the DLSU Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, co-hosted by the USA Fray Luis De Leon Creative Writing Center and the USA Graduate School, and supported by the DLSU Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, the USA Special Projects Office, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. The food writing fellowships are sponsored by the DLSU Angelo King Institute for Economics and Business Studies.

The College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology of the University of San Agustin (USA) tops this year’s Licensure Examination for Medical Technologists with a 94.37% passing percentage. USA ranked first among the schools with 50 or more examinees and the only university outside Luzon to have made it to the list.
