The USA College of Law International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Team won for the third time in a row at the 2023 National Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law last November 21 (preliminary rounds) and November 28 and 29 (quarterfinals, semifinals and final rounds) at the Philippine Red Cross in Mandaluyong City. This victory marks an exceptional achievement for the team. They triumphed through all rounds, facing tough opponents like Ateneo de Manila University and UP Diliman before clinching the title against Ateneo de Naga in a thrilling final match.
Not only did the team win overall, but individual members also received recognition. Samantha Grajo, the team captain, earned the 3rd Best Mooter award for her excellent advocacy skills. Idan Javier received the Best Mooter title and the esteemed Justice Ines Luciano Memorial Award, showcasing his commitment to international humanitarian law. Additionally, the team’s collective efforts led to them being awarded the 1st Runner-Up Best Defense Memorial, highlighting their strong grasp of legal arguments and defense strategies.
This victory secures their spot to represent the Philippines in the global rounds in Hong Kong scheduled for March 2024, marking their third consecutive representation at this level. The winning team, led by Samantha Grajo and comprising Idan Javier, Glyngie Erika Basilan, Carla Faith M. Aquino, and Mary Andrea Managaytay, showcased remarkable dedication and skills. They were guided by Adviser and Coach Atty. Anfred P. Panes, whose support contributed significantly to their success, alongside the leadership of Dean Atty. Jose Mari Benjamin Francisco U. Tirol and Co-Adviser Judge Elijo Herrera-Bellones.
This accomplishment not only cements their status as champions but also emphasizes their commitment to excellence, teamwork, and advancing legal expertise in international humanitarian law.
