Christine Octoso, a fifth-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture student at the University of San Agustin-Iloilo, was awarded as one of the Top Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines 2023 on December 30, 2023, in commemoration of the 127th Year of Jose Rizal’s Martyrdom.
The Knights of Rizal (KOR), chartered under Republic Act No. 646, launched its 34th Annual Search for The Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines (JRMSP) for the Collegiate Level, Rizalian Year 2023. Sending the best representative from the university, the search aims to recognize the best students from different colleges and universities who showcased their excellence in the fields of academic, leadership and community involvement, just like our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
The Top Ten (10) Finalists was accommodated in one of the hotels in the BP International Hotel, free of charge, and transportation expenses shouldered by the KOR. There were opening program, lectures and discussions on the 28th. On the 29th, essay competition, interviews and final deliberations were conducted by JRMSP Panel of Judges. The candidates were also able to watch GomBurZa after. The Top Five (5) winners were awarded with cash prizes, medals, and certificates on the day of the awarding on the 30th at the KOR International Headquarters.
Christine was the only student from the region to get this award. Her outstanding achievement reflects her dedication and commitment to serve, and brings pride to our city, the region, and the country in commemoration of our national hero’s martyrdom.
