The University of San Agustin proudly congratulates Dr. Noel Peter B. Tan, the Director for the Center for Advanced New Materials, Engineering, and Emerging Technologies (CANMEET) at the University, on his exceptional achievement as the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) 2024 Outstanding Professional of the Year in Chemical Engineering.
Dr. Tan, a native of Tacloban and a licensed chemical engineer, has been an exemplary figure in the field of nanotechnology. His pioneering work includes the introduction of solution blow spinning, a groundbreaking technology for creating scalable nanofiber membranes with membrane fabricating equipment that operates solely on high air pressure, a departure from conventional electricity-driven systems. This innovation has not only marked a significant advancement in nanoscience and nanotechnology but also brought about the development of the first “Nanotechnology and Nanomaterial Fundamentals” elective course, which he introduced and taught at the university.
Dr. Tan’s dedication to advancing scientific research extends beyond the classroom. He has been a vocal advocate for democratizing scientific research and empowering communities, both big and small, to engage in state-of-the-art scientific R&D. His vision for accessibility and inclusivity in scientific research has led him to lead CANMEET at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo, in June 2022, the first and only material science and nanotechnology research center in Western Visayas. This center is devoted to the development of a smart packaging laboratory, reflecting Dr. Tan’s commitment to bringing cutting-edge research to various corners of the country.
In addition to his role at the University of San Agustin as an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering, Dr. Tan is a Balik-Scientist under DOST PCIEERD and a proud member of the board of directors of the PIChE Cebu Chapter. His contributions to the field have been recognized with last year’s PIChE Excellence Award: Rosendo & Luz J. Tansinsin Award for Research and Development, and his leadership as the Program Committee Lead for the upcoming 85th PIChE National Convention is a testament to his commitment to the advancement of chemical engineering.
Dr. Noel B. Tan’s exceptional accomplishments demonstrate his unrelenting dedication to scientific research and his determination to make a significant and long-lasting impact in the field of chemical engineering. The University of San Agustin takes great delight in recognizing Dr. Tan’s exceptional accomplishments and congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.
