The College of Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics- Nursing Program celebrates its 50th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony for Batch Hygieia, Class of 2028, at the University of San Agustin Gymnasium, September 9.
This event marked a pivotal moment for the aspiring nurses as they prepared to enter the practical realm of healthcare.
The special occasion began with a processional, followed by a solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Jonas M. Mejares, OSA. Family members, friends, and faculty members joined in prayer, reflecting on the students’ journeys and offering their support.
The main program commenced with a prologue delivered by Ma’am Angel Queen Tonquin, RN. Subsequently, Ma’am Nicolasa B. Ariola, RN, MaEdGC, MAN, a distinguished alumna from the Class of 1980, generously shared her insights and experiences from her long and impactful nursing career, offering valuable perspectives and inspiration to the student nurses.
Dr. Carlane P. Torres, PhD, RN, Clinical Coordinator, then presented the 609 candidates for the capping and pinning ceremony and was confirmed by Fr. John Louis S. Ricamora, OSA, MAT, MN, RN, the Dean of the College of Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics.
A significant moment followed as chief nurses from affiliated hospitals, along with the Dean and faculty members, participated in the Imposition of Caps and Pins. This act symbolized the students’ readiness and commitment to providing care in the healthcare sector.
Rosemarie Tabladillo-Mercene, embodying Florence Nightingale, led the Lighting of the Candle ceremony. This symbolic gesture reinforced the students’ dedication to the core values of the nursing profession, emphasizing compassion and service. Moreover, Jenivir B. Lipa, the Level 2 Council President, guided the Pledge of Loyalty, where students made a heartfelt promise to uphold the integrity and principles of nursing.
Concluding the ceremony, Batch Hygieia participated in a Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary before joining together to sing their class song, “I Believe,” by Fantasia Barrino.
The 50th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony celebrated the achievements of Batch Hygieia and highlighted their hard work and dedication. These student nurses have affirmed their commitment to the nursing profession. As they advance in their nursing journey, they will be carrying the support of their families, guidance of their clinical instructors, and the core values instilled by the institution. This support, combined with their dedication, will enable them to make significant contributions to the field of nursing and healthcare as a whole.
