We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Miss Mary Gale Lachica, a Level IV learner from the Nutrition and Dietetics Program, for her outstanding participation in the Science, Technology, and Innovation National Pitching Competition focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2025. This event took place at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City on October 24, 2025.
Miss Lachica represented her group members: M.J. Abibuag, T.A. Cordova, V. Daganato, H. Jaucian, and M.M. Serato, presenting their innovative research study titled “Saccharum Officinarum Bagasse and Zea Mays Husk as Potential Biodegradable, Eco-Friendly Food Packaging Material” in the student category. Their research adviser is Dr. M.S. Leong-on. Their study achieved second place in this category.
The event was organized by the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), the Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM), and the University of San Agustin, in partnership with the Yuchengco Center and Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University.
Notably, Miss Lachica will represent the College and University at NUTRICON 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 17-18, 2025, where she will present their research to an international audience. We wish her God’s blessings as she showcases their work on this global stage!
