The University of San Agustin (USA) has confirmed its dedication to improving international relations and higher education diplomacy. Mr. John Paul P. Mondejar, Director of the International Relations Office, and Mr. Ralph Angelo P. Misola, Academic Supervisor of the AB Political Science and BS Foreign Service programs, represented the University at the 2nd Conference of Higher Education Institutions on International Relations and Studies (CHEIIRS). This event took place on 07 November 2025 at the Diamond Hotel Manila.

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI), a valued partner of the University of San Agustin (USA), hosted the conference. Its goal was to improve cooperation between the diplomatic service and higher education institutions. The event brought together representatives from universities and colleges across the Philippines that offer programs in international relations, diplomacy, and international studies. It provided a platform for sharing best practices, exploring academic-diplomatic links, and discussing new trends in global affairs.

FSI Director General Hon. Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III formally opened the conference. He welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of building strong partnerships between government institutions and academia to boost the country’s diplomatic skills.

The keynote message was delivered by Hon. Atty. Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega, Undersecretary for Administration of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). In her address, she emphasized the vital role of academic institutions in advancing the country’s foreign policy objectives. She noted that universities and colleges are instrumental in shaping and preparing the next generation of diplomats, international affairs professionals, and global leaders, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to navigate the complexities of global relations and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s international engagements.

The conference also provided opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring partnerships. It showed the shared commitment of the academic and diplomatic communities to enhance the Philippines’ presence and influence on the international stage.

CHEIIRS serves as a national platform for dialogue, policy exchange, and building partnerships among higher education institutions (HEIs) involved in international relations and studies. This year’s conference aimed to improve collaboration between academia and the diplomatic community to encourage global engagement, policy research, and international cooperation.

Mr. Mondejar and Mr. Misola participated in discussions about new trends in diplomacy education, global academic connections, and ways to develop future leaders in foreign service and governance. Their involvement highlights the University’s active role in producing globally competent Augustinian graduates who are dedicated to service, leadership, and intercultural understanding.

The University’s participation in the 2nd CHEIIRS, hosted by its partner FSI, shows its ongoing effort to engage meaningfully with national and international organizations. This aims to create a responsive and globally engaged community in higher education.
