Two third-year Library and Information Science students from the University of San Agustin have brought honor to their institution by placing fourth at the 2025 LIS Wizard, a prestigious national inter-school quiz competition.
Jullius Matthew Eleuterio and Rev. Fr. Joshua O. Artates competed against teams from fourteen colleges and universities across the Philippines on November 17, 2025, at the University of the Philippines, Diliman campus. The competition, now in its 29th edition, was organized by the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, Inc. (PATLS) in partnership with the Council of Deans and Heads of LIS Schools (CODHLIS)
This achievement promotes inclusive, equitable learning opportunities for all. Academic competitions like the LIS Wizard encourage students to deepen their expertise in a field crucial to knowledge democratization and information access.
Library and information science professionals are essential to achieving educational equity by ensuring communities have access to information resources, supporting literacy programs, and bridging the digital divide. Well-trained librarians serve as gatekeepers of knowledge and facilitators of lifelong learning.
Library professionals act as custodians of cultural heritage, preserving historical documents and ensuring communities maintain access to their collective knowledge—vital components of sustainable, resilient societies.
While competing, USA’s representatives demonstrated the quality of education provided by their institution’s BLIS Program. Their performance showcases how Philippine academic institutions are preparing future information professionals to serve as agents of change in building equitable, knowledge-based communities.(oco)
