In a heartwarming display of alumni commitment to their alma mater, the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology received a significant donation of microscopy equipment on Wednesday afternoon at the Medical Technology Laboratory. The generous contribution from University of San Agustin Pharmacy and Medical Technology International Alumni Association (USAPMTIAA) alumni included one set of multi-view 5-user compound microscopes and one set of binocular compound microscopes—tools that will directly impact the next generation of medical technologists.
Rev. Fr. Jonas M. Mejares, OSA – Vice President for Augustinian Formation and Mission, CPMT Regent opened the program with a prayer. Eldino P. Defensor, RMT, Immediate Past President of USAPMTIAA, represented the donors in the ceremonial turnover and conveyed their heartfelt message to the college. Dr. James L. Torres, RMT, DPAM, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology, graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the institution and its students. Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA, delivered an inspiring message during the ceremony, highlighting the importance of faith, unity, and charity in supporting educational excellence and community development—values that reflect the deep connection between alumni and their commitment to giving back. The equipment was blessed by Rev. Fr. Glen Macolor, OSA, Campus Ministry Director, in a moment that underscored the spiritual foundation of the institution’s mission to serve and educate. Jose G. Perez, RMT, LPT, MSMT, offered closing remarks expressing profound gratitude for the journey and partnership between alumni donors, educators, and practitioners that made this donation possible. His words resonated deeply with the PMT students in attendance, who witnessed firsthand the powerful bond between generations of medical technologists united by their shared commitment to excellence.
Following the program, the atmosphere shifted from formal ceremony to hands-on excitement as attendees were treated to a live demonstration of the new microscopy equipment. Students eagerly gathered around the multi-view 5-user compound microscopes, experiencing for the first time the collaborative learning possibilities these instruments offer. The donors, faculty, alumni and students engaged in actual manipulation of the microscopes together—a symbolic passing of the torch that brought the donation’s impact to life. The energy in the laboratory was palpable as future medical technologists explored the very tools that will shape their educational journey, made possible by alumni who once stood in their place.
The University of San Agustin extends its deepest appreciation to the following alumni and friends whose generous contributions have made this transformative gift possible. Your commitment to nurturing the next generation of medical technologists exemplifies the true spirit of Augustinian values and professional excellence. Each donation, regardless of size, represents a profound investment in the future of healthcare education and the continued legacy of our beloved institution.
