University of San Agustin and the Sustainable Development Goals

The University of San Agustin (USA), located in Iloilo City, Philippines, embraces the principles of sustainable development through its mission of providing quality education rooted in the Augustinian values of Veritas (Truth), Caritas (Charity), and Unitas (Unity). Inspired by the global call for sustainable development, the University aligns its academic programs, community engagement, and research initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Following the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations in 2015, higher education institutions around the world began integrating the SDGs into their educational frameworks and institutional priorities. The University of San Agustin responded to this global initiative by strengthening programs that promote social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and inclusive development within the local and global community.

Through various academic programs, research projects, and community outreach activities, the University actively contributes to several SDGs, particularly those related to Quality Education (SDG 4), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). These initiatives reflect the University’s long-standing commitment to serving society through education, service, and innovation.

The University continues to expand its participation in sustainability efforts by encouraging faculty, students, and community partners to engage in projects that address pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. Outreach programs, environmental campaigns, research collaborations, and service-learning activities are among the ways the University supports sustainable development both locally and globally.

Today, the University of San Agustin remains committed to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by fostering responsible leadership, promoting sustainable practices, and empowering communities. Through collaboration and shared responsibility, the University seeks to play an active role in building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for all.
