Global Women’s Breakfast 2026 Convenes Future Innovators at University of San Agustin

In celebration of science, collaboration, and inclusivity, the Chemistry and Physics Department of the University of San Agustin (USA) successfully hosted the Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) 2026 on February 10 at the 7th Floor of the CPMT Building, uniting aspiring scientists under this year’s theme, “Many Voices, One Science.”

The Global Women’s Breakfast is a worldwide initiative of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, held annually alongside the United Nations’ International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Since its global launch in 2019, the initiative has fostered an international, multi-gender network committed to addressing gender disparities in science while highlighting vital yet often overlooked dimensions of scientific careers — including mentorship, resilience, and collaboration.

The University of San Agustin has been an active participant in this global movement since 2019. This year’s gathering brought together STEM and Chemistry students from various academic communities, strengthening inter-institutional connections and promoting shared scientific engagement.

The program began with a networking breakfast, setting a warm and collaborative tone for the day. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ricardo M. Coloso, PhD, Academic Supervisor of the Chemistry and Physics Department, underscored the importance of building inclusive spaces in scientific disciplines.

Dr. Bernice Mae Yu Jeco-Espaldon, PhD, delivered the first inspirational lecture and facilitated a workshop on the sonication process, offering participants practical exposure to laboratory techniques. The second technical session was led by Mr. Roxzien Shaye G. Sesbreño, RCh, who guided students through the principles and applications of electrochemical reactions.

An engaging open forum allowed participants to exchange insights, raise questions, and reflect on the day’s learnings. The event concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Patricia Justine V. Vergara, RCh, MSc, reaffirming the department’s commitment to empowering future scientists.

Through dialogue, mentorship, and hands-on learning, Global Women’s Breakfast 2026 once again demonstrated that when many voices come together, science moves forward as one united and innovative community.
