Paglalakbay ni Poly: Promoting Environmental Awareness Through Storytelling in IP Community Outreach

The University of San Agustin, through the Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office (SACEO) in collaboration with the Philanthropic External and Alumni Relations (PEAR) Office, conducted an educational outreach activity for Indigenous Peoples (IP) children in Sitio Igtuba, Barangay Camangahan, Guimbal, Iloilo.

The initiative aimed to provide accessible and engaging learning opportunities, fostering both environmental awareness and creative expression among young participants.

A key highlight of the outreach was the storytelling activity “Paglalakbay ni Poly,” developed by the University of San Agustin Chemical Engineering Students Society. The session introduced children to the concept of polymer plastics while promoting environmental responsibility through the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

The activity concluded with a coloring session, where participants creatively expressed their understanding of the lesson, further enhancing engagement and enjoyment throughout the learning experience.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality EducationSDG 12: Responsible Consumption and ProductionSDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by promoting inclusive learning, environmental awareness, and collaborative community engagement.

Through initiatives like this, the University of San Agustin continues to extend its commitment to community engagement, inclusive education, and environmental stewardship.
