The University of San Agustin (USA), through its Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) program under the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Education (CLASE), in partnership with the International Relations Office (IRO), hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the History and International Studies Department of the College of Arts and Sciences of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan (XU) on 30 April 2026 at Hotel Sta. Monica.
The activity brought together 23 History and International Studies students and three faculty members from Xavier University, namely Prof. Catalina H. Gaite, Prof. Gleford Lagcao Jr., and Prof. Aizzle Kay Tabafa, along with 25 Foreign Service students from the University of San Agustin. The discussion was facilitated by the Director of the International Relations Office (IRO), John Paul P. Mondejar, together with University of San Agustin faculty members Atty. Justin Francis C. Bionat and Atty. Jamaica A. Molaga.
Set against an increasingly complex global environment marked by geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties, climate challenges, and evolving diplomatic relations, the FGD served as a venue for meaningful academic exchange on International Relations, diplomacy, and contemporary global issues. Participants engaged in discussions that drew from historical perspectives and International Relations theories, fostering critical analysis and academic dialogue.
The engagement also reflected the shared academic values of both institutions. Rooted in the Augustinian principles of Unitas, Veritas, et Caritas (Unity, Truth, and Charity) and the guiding ideal of Veritas Liberabit Vos of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan (The truth will set you free), the activity underscored the importance of truth, dialogue, and collaboration in higher education. It highlighted the role of academic institutions in forming globally aware, critically engaged, and ethically grounded students.
Held under the framework of the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities, the activity reinforces their commitment to sustained academic cooperation, intercultural engagement, and the formation of future professionals in the field of international relations and global affairs.
The University of San Agustin remains committed to strengthening academic linkages and advancing collaborative initiatives that promote excellence, intercultural understanding, and meaningful engagement in higher education.
