A Life in Loyalty and Service: The Enduring Legacy of Dean Emeritus Flora Salas

A family’s devotion — from milestone celebrations to final tributes — transforms a mother’s lifelong commitment to education into lasting gifts for generations to come.

Dean Emeritus Flora Salas devoted her life to shaping minds, strengthening institutions, and advancing the cause of education with quiet but unwavering conviction. In honoring her memory, the family she raised has chosen to speak in the same language she loved most: service.

On the occasion of her landmark birthday milestone, her children turned celebration into contribution — marking the moment with a generous gift to the University of San Agustin as a living testament to the values she had instilled in each of them from the very beginning.

That spirit of giving did not end with her passing. Even in their grief, the Salas family directed memorial donations to the College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology’s advocacy, ensuring that the causes closest to Dean Salas’ heart — professional excellence, meaningful practice, and the welfare of those who dedicate their lives to teaching — would carry forward, rooted in her memory and nurtured by a family that understood, deeply and fully, what she stood for.

“Our family has had an unshakeable and precious bond with the university – mom studied here starting in 1947, and started teaching after her graduation in 1951;  she became Dean of the college of Pharmacy and Medical Technology in 1964, until 1995.  Then she was Director for Human Resources, and Assistant for Academic Affairs to the University  President for 10 more years. All of us seven children studied in San Agustin, from elementary to college years; my sister has now worked for the university for the past 45 years, and grandchildren have studied and completed their education  here as well.  There has been someone from the family with the university for the past 79 years”.Dr. Vic Salas, Elem. ’69, H.S. ‘73, BS Biology ‘77.

The University of San Agustin is profoundly grateful to the Salas family for this enduring expression of love — for Dean Emeritus and lay Augustinian affiliate  Flora Salas, for the institution, and for the students and faculty whose lives will be touched by her legacy long after her time.
