The University of San Agustin (USA) reaffirmed its commitment to global engagement and sustainable development through its participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, held from 22 to 25 June 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) Jakarta, Indonesia.
Representing the University was Mr. John Paul P. Mondejar, Director of the International Relations Office (IRO), who joined university leaders, policymakers, researchers, industry experts, and sustainability advocates from around the world in discussions focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through higher education.
Organized by Times Higher Education, the Global Sustainable Development Congress is one of the world’s leading platforms for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange among institutions committed to addressing global challenges through education, research, community engagement, and strategic partnerships. The four-day congress featured high-level plenary sessions, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and exhibitions showcasing best practices in sustainability from universities and organizations worldwide.
A highlight of the Congress was the presentation of the University of San Agustin’s 2026 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings Certificate, which was formally received by Director Mondejar on behalf of the University. The recognition coincides with USA’s improved performance in the latest rankings, where the University advanced from the 1501+ bracket in 2025 to the 1001–1500 bracket worldwide in 2026.
Present during the certificate presentation was THE Senior Regional Director for South Asia Ritin Malhotra and CHED Commissioner Ricmar P. Aquino, who led the Philippine delegation to the Congress. The occasion also underscored the growing global presence and competitiveness of Philippine higher education, as the Philippines emerged as the most represented country in the 2026 THE Impact Rankings, with 160 higher education institutions included in the rankings.
Reflecting on the recognition and the University’s participation in the Congress, Director Mondejar emphasized the importance of continued engagement with the global higher education community.
“Participating in the THE Global Sustainable Development Congress provided a valuable opportunity to learn from institutions around the world and to showcase the University of San Agustin’s continuing commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. Receiving the University’s THE Impact Rankings certificate on behalf of USA was a proud moment, made even more meaningful by our improved standing in this year’s rankings. This achievement reflects the hard work of our faculty, staff, students, administrators, and partners who contribute daily to the University’s mission of service and excellence. We look forward to building on this momentum through stronger international partnerships and meaningful collaborations that create positive impact for our communities,” said Director Mondejar.
The University’s improved standing reflects its continuing commitment to excellence, sustainability, and meaningful contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through instruction, research, community engagement, and institutional stewardship. It is likewise a testament to the collective efforts of the University’s administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, partners, and stakeholders in advancing initiatives that create positive and measurable impact in society.
