Guidance Services and Testing Center and HRMO Conduct RACE Against Suicide Training

The Guidance Services and Testing Center, in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), successfully conducted the RACE Against Suicide Training facilitated by the UNILAB Foundation at the 7th Floor, CPMT Building. Held on June 1–2, 2026, the two-day training brought together members of the University community in a shared commitment to promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

The first day of the training featured insightful learning sessions facilitated by Dr. Sheila Marie G. Hocson, RGC, RPsy, RPM, LPT, who delivered Module 1, and Ms. Marella Reforma-Sampayan, RPM, RGC, who facilitated Module 2. Through interactive discussions and practical activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of mental health, suicide prevention, and the critical role of gatekeepers in providing early intervention and support.

A total of 242 personnel from the University of San Agustin were trained as Gatekeepers, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical skills to recognize the warning signs of suicide, respond appropriately to individuals at risk, and facilitate timely referrals to qualified mental health professionals. The training also emphasized the importance of active listening, empathy, effective communication, and creating a culture of care, compassion, and psychological safety within the University community.

This collaboration between Heads Up PH, the UNILAB Foundation, and the University of San Agustin reflects a shared commitment to strengthening mental health awareness and building a responsive support system within educational institutions. By empowering University personnel to become proactive mental health advocates, the initiative contributes to creating a safer, more supportive, and inclusive learning and working environment where the well-being of every member of the community is valued and protected.
