August 5, 2026 – The University of San Agustin received two prestigious recognitions as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office celebrated its 35th Anniversary, carried under the theme “BJMP@35: Disiplina at responsibilidad sa Serbisyong may kredibilidad”.
The University’s Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office (SACEO) was conferred a Plaque of Appreciation in the institutional category, in recognition of its steadfast support and sustained partnership with BJMP initiatives. The University’s outreach work at the Iloilo City District Jail (ICDJ-BJMP) centers on the holistic development of female Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). Key components include training female PDLs to serve as facilitators of basic mental health exercises for their peers, alongside the introduction of livelihood programs to foster skills, dignity, and self-reliance.
Receiving individual recognition was Dr. Ma. Rosalie Abeto-Zerrudo, Academic Supervisor for Fine Arts, who was honored for Outstanding Community Service. Dr. Zerrudo has served as Project Lead for numerous development initiatives implemented at the ICDJ-BJMP.
The anniversary program was presided over by JSSUPT Jhon D. Montero, MM, Regional Director of the jail bureau, who introduced the event’s Guest of Honor and Speaker, Jail Director Efren A. Nemeño, DPA, TLPE.
