The University of San Agustin, headed by Event Chair Dr. Rex L. Carton, in collaboration with Dean Nolan Tolosa of the College of Technology and Ms. Ma. Christy Daguay of SACEO-USA, conducted the “Solid Waste Management Talk @ USA” on September 2, 2026, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the USA College of Technology Laboratory D, bringing together students, faculty, and institutional partners to strengthen awareness and action on solid waste management.
Organized through the collaboration of Luntian PH (NGO focused on Environment), SACEO, Office of the Registrar (OTR), College of Technology (COT), Sustainability and Resilience Management Office (SRMO), Research Development and Innovation Foundation, Inc. (RDFI), AGSO, EACO, and JPIA-USA, the activity featured three major discussions focused on global and local waste management concerns.
The first session, “World Status of Garbage,” was led by Ms. Mayzl V. Domingo, CPA, founder of Luntian PH, with Ms. Trisha Solis, President of Luntian PH 2026–2027, and Dr. Rex Carton, University Registrar and Vice President Internal of Luntian PH 2026–2027, who presented the organization’s programs, projects, and activities.
Dr. Sherwin T. Sepe discussed USA’s Solid Waste Management Policy, while Ms. Frances Marie A. Montano presented Ethnographic Research and KAP Survey of Eco Spaces under the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership.
The program also featured an open forum, participant feedback, the awarding of certificates, and a photo opportunity. Through this initiative, USA reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and collective action toward responsible solid waste management. The activity also marked the beginning of a joint partnership between the University and Luntian PH in implementing various environmental initiatives, including the proposed establishment of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in a barangay in Iloilo City.
