Fourth-year Architecture students of the University of San Agustin recently participated in an enriching academic and cultural immersion in Seoul, South Korea from 04–09 May 2026, strengthening their global perspective through international academic engagement and field-based learning.
The program began with the establishment of academic and cultural relations at Seokyeong University, where students engaged in meaningful exchanges that fostered collaboration and broadened their understanding of global architectural education and practice.
As part of their immersion, the students visited key heritage sites such as Eunpyeong Hanok Village, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These visits provided valuable insights into how traditional Korean architecture is preserved and integrated within a rapidly modernizing urban environment.
The group also studied contemporary architectural innovation through an examination of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The site offered students a deeper appreciation of modern aesthetics, structural experimentation, and cutting-edge design principles.
In addition, the immersion included an exploration of Seoul’s urban planning systems, focusing on the efficiency and integration of roads, bridges, and transit infrastructure. This component highlighted how well-designed urban systems contribute to both cultural preservation and sustainable city development.
Through this combination of international collaboration, heritage conservation studies, modern architectural analysis, and urban systems observation, the students gained a comprehensive understanding of architecture’s critical role in shaping livable, resilient, and future-ready cities.
