AUGUSTINIAN ATHLETES EXCEL IN THE 2023 NATIONAL PRISAA

Student-athletes of the University of San Agustin (USA) brought home honor for Western Visayas in the recently concluded Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) 2023 National Games held at Zamboanga City, July 13-19. 

Forming part of the Western Visayas delegation, the Augustinian athletes raised the flag of the university and the region in 11 sports categories in the said national games.

Marian Beatriz Adigue, Jemma Heart Antoniano, Leslie Baltazar, Jessa Butiong, Keena Loren Teruel and Ashen Denise Villaruel were part of the Women’s Basketball Team who won the gold medal.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Basketball team with two Augustinian athletes, Coriantom Cabantog and Jan Jerome Ferrer, also won the gold medal.

Moreover, Jeany Meark Torreflores and Gian Fiasal won gold in Taekwondo and Athletics Boys, respectively, while Gian Fiasal and Modesto C. Magbanua III earned silver medals for lawn tennis and Volleyball Boys, respectively. 

Three Augustinian athletes, James G. Galusong, Earl Andrei S. Guijarno, and Leo Jacinth I. Tumilba, formed part of the Men’s Volleyball which earned the silver medal.

Furthermore, Julienne Matutina and Cherry Anatan in Athletics Girls won silver and bronze respectively while Bryan Barrio won the bronze medal in Athletics Men.

In the field of Dance Sports, Jhea Lou Porras and Antonio Escoto for the Standard category, and Francine Kate Rusia and Gellour Vince Delfin for the Latin category became finalists.

Meanwhile, Mr. Demosthenes Toledo, University of San Agustin Sports Coordinator and Head Coach of the USA Women’s basketball team, also received a gold medal for the Best National Coach award.

The Western Visayas delegation was declared the overall champion of the 2023 National PRISAA Games.
