The Augustinian Cultural Artists have brought pride to the University of San Agustin and the Ilonggo community by earning recognition at the esteemed 37th Aliw Awards held at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion last December 18, 2024. Founded by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. in 1975, this prestigious award honors excellence in live entertainment in the Philippines. The artists’ exceptional work in promoting Filipino culture was celebrated with two major accolades: the Tultugan Festival of Maasin, Iloilo was named Best Dance Production, while the Manggahan Festival earned the title of Best Festival Performance.
These award-winning productions were spearheaded by Princess Production, a dynamic team led by three Augustinian alumni– the choreographer Steven Jacosalem (BS Education MAPEH, Batch 2013) and former members of the USA Little Theater: the Artistic Director Joemar J. Sustento (BS Nursing, Batch 2004), and the Creative Director Ron Matthews Espinosa (BS Interior Designer, Batch 2013), who played significant roles in shaping the success of these performances. Their dedication and expertise in the performing arts shone through, showcasing the vibrant cultural festivals in the region.
The team dedicated their recognition to the locals and supporters of the festivals for their collaborative efforts and invaluable mentorship, and the Ilonggo community, whose encouragement has fueled their passion for excellence.
“This honor inspires us to continue striving for greater heights in our craft and to give back to the community that has always supported us,” Espinosa shared.
As the Augustinian Cultural Artists celebrate this milestone, they reaffirm their commitment to showcasing Filipino culture through performing arts and making a positive impact in the creative industry. Their achievements serve as a testament to the power of collaboration, passion, and perseverance. As a vibrant part of Iloilo’s cultural landscape, the Ilonggo community is already gearing up for the upcoming Dinagyang Festival, one of the Philippines’ most renowned celebrations. Held every fourth Sunday of January, the festival honors the feast of Señor Santo Niño and draws thousands of spectators to experience its colorful street dances, vibrant traditions, and deep devotion to Señor Santo Niño.
