Augustinian Researcher Bags First Place in PNHRS Visual Abstract Poster Competition

Congratulations to Mr. Chuckris Tenebro, Science Research Specialist II of the Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology (C2B2), and the Center for Natural Drug Discovery and Development (CND3) for winning First Place in the Visual Abstract Poster Competition (Professional Category) during the 15th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week held at Clark Marriot Hotel, Pampanga. Mr. Tenebro’s poster is entitled “Genes Don’t Lie: Genomics and Metabolomics Strategies Unearth the Pharmaceutical Compounds from A Novel Streptomyces sp. with Antibiotic and Anticancer Activities”.

The visual abstract poster showcases the ongoing effort of the C2B2 and CND3 to find new antibiotic-producing microbes called Streptomyces from Philippine marine sediments. The research poster represented Western Visayas in the visual abstract competition for the Professional category during the 15th PNHRS Week Celebration. It was presented by Mr. Tenebro under the mentorship of Dr. Doralyn Dalisay and Dr. Jonel Saludes. Some of the major highlights mentioned in the visual abstract poster were the isolation of a novel Streptomyces species from a marine sediment sample collected in Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, which proves that the strain is indeed new; the antibiotic and anticancer activities of the Streptomyces strain; and the possible compounds it produced based on genomics and metabolomics profile of the Streptomyces strain.

Padayon, Sir Chuck!

We are proud of you! #VivaSanAgustin
