Bringing Higher Education to the Island: USA Makes History at Semirara’s First Career Fair

In a landmark event for students on Semirara Island, the University of San Agustin (USA) brought its campus experience directly to aspiring college students by participating in the inaugural Semirara Career Fair on February 21, 2026.

Held at the SMPC Food Court in Caluya, Antique, the full-day event drew over 300 Grade 12 students from three local schools. For many, it was their first direct interaction with a university representative, bridging the gap between their island community and higher education opportunities on the mainland.

USA made a strong impression with a dynamic team from the PEAR (Philanthropic, External, and Alumni Relations) Office and the ASPO (Admission, Scholarships, and Placement Office). Rather than simply handing out brochures, the team set up an interactive booth, where students could get immediate answers about enrollment, scholarships, and academic programs.

The morning session opened with a Career Talk guiding students in planning their future paths, followed by the on-site administration of the USA Admission Test (USAAT), allowing them to take their first official step toward college without leaving the island. In the afternoon, the event transitioned into a vibrant booth fair where students engaged in deeper conversations about programs, courses, and career opportunities—bringing access, guidance, and opportunity directly to their community.

By the conclusion of the day’s activities, the University of San Agustin had engaged with hundreds of prospective Agustinians and demonstrated a transformative model of educational outreach for geographically isolated communities. The success of the inaugural Semirara Career Fair underscores a compelling principle: geographic distance need not hinder aspiration when access to higher education is proactively delivered to learners within their own communities.
