

The CLASE-Social Sciences Unit in partnership with the USA Student Government is currently hosting an exciting university-wide debate competition, bringing together talented debaters from various colleges. The event, which began with the preliminary round on January 31, 2025, continued with intense semi-final matches on February 14, and will culminate in a highly anticipated championship round on March 5.
This competition serves as a platform for students to showcase their critical thinking, argumentation, and public speaking skills while tackling pressing social, political, and technological issues. It also fosters intellectual discourse and healthy competition among participants, reinforcing the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
For the preliminary rounds, the moderator was Professor Ramonita V. Pico, while the judges were Atty. Jeff Earl Nunez (Chief Judge), Mr. Daryl Lutero and Mr. John Denver P. Alayon. The moderator for the semi-final round was Mr. Alayon, with Atty. Luis Miguel Tirador (Chief Judge), Atty. Yzabel Layson and Atty. Megan Cortez as judges. The judges are USA College of Law alumni.
The final round will feature the top debating teams – the College of Technology and College of Commerce – which will both be competing for the coveted championship title. Spectators can expect insightful arguments, compelling rebuttals, and a display of exceptional rhetorical prowess.
By encouraging vibrant discussions and sharpening students’ analytical abilities, this debate tournament not only hones essential skills but also builds a culture of informed dialogue within the university.
