Growth is not just about growing taller or reading bigger books; it is about growing deeper inside. The Elementary Department of the University of San Agustin (USA), as part of the Campus ministry program, recently gathered its young Augustinian learners for their Annual Recollection—a meaningful pause set aside for reflection on the connections that shape their everyday lives.
The journey began with the Grade 4 pupils, who reflected on the theme Family and Friends. At this stage, children begin to realize that life is never meant to be lived alone. Family gives them roots, while friends provide companionship along the way. Through quiet moments and shared activities, the Grade 4 learners reflected on how being a good friend and a loving family member means choosing patience and kindness each day. They discovered that the warmth of human connection is where love first begins.
Expanding their view to the world around them, the Grade 5 learners explored the theme My Environment. A simple look at life reminds us that we are not separate from nature but are a vital part of it. The learners reflected on the beauty of creation and their shared responsibility to care for the Earth. They learned that taking care of the environment is a quiet form of gratitude—a way of honoring the world that gives them life and shelter.
Finally, as they stand on the threshold of growing up, the Grade 6 learners turned their hearts toward the theme My God. In a space of quiet prayer, they reflected on their personal relationship with the Divine. They discovered that God is not a distant concept found only in books but a loving presence walking beside them in their daily choices, offering strength, comfort, and purpose.
As this year’s Annual Recollection comes to a close, the young learners return to their classrooms with open hearts and clearer minds. The days of quiet reflection may have ended, but the seeds of devotion to family and friends, care for the environment, and trust in God will continue to bloom in their daily lives.
