From Campus to Community: USA’s Ducado and Salcedo Shine in 2026 IWAG Awards

For two of the University of San Agustin’s finest campus journalists, excellence is more than bylines. It’s a commitment to nation-building. Joewen Ray Ducado and Mary Colleen Faith Salcedo, Editors-in-Chief of USA Publications, have been conferred the prestigious 2026 IWAG Award by the Philippine Information Agency Region 6.

Now in its 49th year since 1977, the IWAG Award serves as Western Visayas’ premier incentive scheme for graduating collegiate campus editors. Ducado and Salcedo are among only 25 awardees selected region-wide, recognized for their outstanding capabilities in development communication, campus journalism, and academic performance.

The two USA Pub EICs sharpened their skills through PIA-6’s annual campus journalism seminar-workshops and college press conferences, embodying the very mission of promoting national development through student media. Past IWAG honorees have gone on to lead in media, academe, and government, and Ducado and Salcedo are poised to follow that same path.

Their achievement echoes the University’s commitment to SDG 4 and SDG 16—using quality education and responsible communication to build stronger, more just communities.
