Hospitality Management Program Aims for Internationalization

The Hospitality Management Program of the College of Commerce is making significant strides in the internationalization of the program as it continually strives for academic excellence.

From July 9-11, 2024, Ms. Charmaine Lyn Magapan, Academic Supervisor of the Hospitality Management Program, participated in the Global Internationalization Training and Workshop for International Office Staff in Surabaya, Indonesia. This program provided hands-on training and workshops on internationalization for higher education institutions. It covered strategies and programs to enhance global reputation, mobility management (for students, lecturers, and non-academic staff), managing international partnerships, the use of information technology in managing the international office, internationalization at home, and managing student volunteers. The event also offered professionals from around the world the opportunity to engage in worksheets, observation, discussion, and workshops.

Furthermore, from August 6-10, 2024, Ms. Magapan visited University College Sedaya International (UCSI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a benchmarking activity. During the visit, she met with Associate Professor Dr. Hanafi Bin Hamzah, Dean of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, to discuss and exchange ideas that can be beneficial in strategizing efforts to strengthen the program’s global competitiveness. She also visited the Malaysia Tourism Promotions Board to observe and learn from Malaysia’s successful tourism and hospitality strategies.

Through these efforts, the program aims to raise its standards, align with international best practices, and provide students with the global perspective essential in today’s competitive world.

These initiatives show the program’s commitment to offering globally competitive and high-quality education to its students.
