Music Professor Graduates Magna Cum Laude in Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance

Congratulations to Dr. Gerardo Vicente “Bimbo” A. Muyuela, Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, Magna Cum Laude, St. Paul University, Manila!

Dr. Muyuela is one of the members of the pioneering batch of the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) program at St. Paul University Manila, the only school that offers it. He is the first to graduate from a Philippine university with a Piano Performance Major. He finished his Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Music Major from the University of San Agustin and completed his Master of Music Magna Cum Laude at Sta. Isabel College Manila. Along with his academic achievements, he also performed as a soloist at the Paco Park and Concert at the Park in Luneta during his masteral studies. He brought to Iloilo a chamber concert featuring piano trio works by Brahms, Poulenc and Piazzolla at the Casa Real. Due to the pandemic restrictions, his graduation recital was held at the University of San Agustin, where he performed the following concertos: Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-minor and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in D-Flat Major, assisted by Dr. Clement Acevedo, on the second piano, who played the orchestral part.

In the University, Dr. Muyuela is currently the Academic Supervisor of the Conservatory of Music and the music director of Coro Liturgico Agustino. He is also a member of the Music Committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
