The Nursing Review Center of the University of San Agustin echoed with excitement as the curtains closed on a thrilling Inter-Collegiate General Education (GE) Quiz Bee, showcasing the knowledge of college students across University of San Agustin. The event, dubbed Augustinian GEnius, held on 6 May 2024, culminated in a celebration of academic excellence and camaraderie.
In a showdown of wits and knowledge, students representing the different USA colleges went head-to-head in a series of stringent rounds, spanning topics from subjects such as The Contemporary World, Readings in Philippine History, Rizal, Science, Technology, and Society, Purposive Communication and Art Appreciation, Mathematics in the Modern World, Ethics, and Understanding the Self. Each student showed exceptional skill, making the competition lively and exhilarating.
After intense rounds of questioning and deliberation, the winners emerged victorious, their hard work and dedication duly rewarded. The Inter-Collegiate Quiz Bee champions for this year are:
First Place: College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology – Jordan Baldevia (MLS2A)
Second Place: College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology – Andrae Gail Gatanela (Pharma 2A)
Third Place: College of Commerce – Tamaha Anne Panizales (TM3B)
The winning teams, along with their coaches and supporters, were praised for their outstanding performance. Their achievement serves as a testament to critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
The Inter-Collegiate Quiz Bee was organized by the Social Sciences Unit of the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education (CLASE), under its Dean, Dr. Nenelyn de la Fuente and unit academic supervisor Dr. Edwin Samis. CLASE is committed to promoting analytical thinking and a spirit of academic competition to further enrich the university experience for all involved. It is hoped that through events like these, students’ GE knowledge would be further enhanced and their appreciation for the pursuit of knowledge renewed.
Elsewhere, the GE Elective 2 (Gender and Society) faculty of the same unit also held a notable art exhibit last March 26, 2024, at the USA Learning Resource Center. The exhibit, which showcased the creativity, talent and collaboration from various Gender and Society classes.
The event aimed to celebrate women’s contributions and abilities throughout history and in contemporary society. Under the guidance of their teachers, students produced art pieces that demonstrated diverse aspects of the female experience as well as showcase meaningful discussions and reflection about gender dynamics and social justice.
The exhibit aimed to recognize the importance of women’s voices within academic and artistic spheres, celebrating the resilience of women everywhere and CLASE’s commitment to honoring women and their role in shaping history. – MRB
