As part of Project A.L.A.B (Augustinian Literacy Advancement for Barangays)—the flagship program led by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs—faculty members from the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Education, together with SACEO, conducted the pilot implementation of Tatap-Kaalam on May 29, 2026, at Barangay Cubay, Jaro.
With fostering reading literacy as a core goal, the activity centered on storytelling to spark love for reading and learning. The session featured “Bugs Free”—an original story by Prof. Rosella Quiros, with the book illustrated by Prof. Mary Rose Ann Faderugao. It creatively blended literacy engagement with lessons on hygiene and sanitation, followed by a hands-on handwashing demonstration and distribution of basins and hygiene kits to reinforce healthy habits at home.
Translations of “Bugs Free” into Hiligaynon and Filipino are currently being developed by Prof. Juan Banias, Prof. Erwin Sustento, and Prof. Ronamae Gumban, to expand access to literacy and health education across more communities.
This initiative highlights the department’s commitment to integrating education and community service, bringing meaningful literacy experiences and essential life skills directly to the grassroots level.
