University of San Agustin and Aklan State University Seal Partnership to Strengthen Academic Collaboration

The University of San Agustin (USA) and Aklan State University (ASU) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 12, 2025, at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City. This marks a new chapter in the partnership between two leading higher education institutions in Western Visayas.

The MOU aims to encourage academic cooperation through faculty and professional exchanges, student mobility programs, and joint international research and publications. It promotes shared growth in education, research, and innovation.

Representing the University of San Agustin were Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA, University President; Dr. Regina Aileen May V. Vergara, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Director John Paul J. Petrola, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Global Relations, and Director John Paul P. Mondejar from the International Relations Office.

The Aklan State University delegation was led by Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, University President, along with Dr. Eleanor F. Rosales, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Julie Ann A. Salido, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Training, and Extension; and Dr. Donna R. Lariosa, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

In his message, Fr. Dizon stressed that the partnership reflects the Augustinian commitment to collaboration and service beyond institutional boundaries. He emphasized that such connections show unitas—unity in purpose—and caritas—love in action—hallmarks of Augustinian education.

He also mentioned that the University of San Agustin is pursuing its application for autonomous status. This will allow the institution to innovate its academic offerings and engage more internationally. “Forging partnerships, such as this one with Aklan State University,” Fr. Dizon noted, “is part of our ongoing journey toward academic excellence, institutional maturity, and global relevance.”

The University President further emphasized that internationalization and strategic linkages are vital parts of the University’s development agenda. This aligns with the vision of shaping globally competent and socially responsible Augustinian scholars.

This collaboration between USA and ASU demonstrates the shared commitment of both institutions to improve education quality, enhance research productivity, and engage with the community, contributing to national and regional goals in higher education.
