The College of Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics (CNND) of the University of San Agustin conducted the two-day faculty development seminar “Scaffolding for Learning: Effective Assessment & Andragogical Strategies 2.0” on July 6–7, 2026, at Sta. Monica Ward, Gamboa Hall, University of San Agustin. The seminar featured Dr. Mardy Verano as the resource speaker and gathered 70 CNND academic staff committed to strengthening teaching excellence and student learning outcomes.
The faculty development activity aimed to enhance assessment practices and andragogical strategies among nursing educators by promoting meaningful, outcomes-based learning. It also sought to evaluate existing assessment practices, improve the validity and reliability of Prescribed Assessment Tools (PAPET), strengthen the assessment of learning outcomes, introduce alternative assessment strategies, develop objective rubrics, and enhance feedback processes that support student growth.
On the first day, participants critically examined current assessment practices to ensure they foster deep learning and clinical competence among nursing students. The sessions concluded with a collaborative workshop where faculty members reviewed, calibrated, and refined their PAPETs to improve their effectiveness in measuring intended learning outcomes.
The second day focused on advancing innovative teaching and assessment practices. Faculty members explored alternative assessment strategies, designed learner-centered assessment activities, constructed objective and outcomes-based rubrics, and participated in a masterclass on structured feedback guidelines and processes. These sessions emphasized transforming assessment into a meaningful learning experience that supports continuous improvement and professional growth.
Through the expertise of Dr. Mardy Verano, participants gained valuable insights into evidence-based assessment practices and effective andragogical approaches that further strengthen the quality of nursing education. The seminar also reinforced the College’s commitment to continuous faculty development, academic excellence, and the delivery of transformative Augustinian education.
By investing in the professional growth of its educators, the University of San Agustin continues to uphold its mission of producing competent, compassionate, and globally responsive healthcare professionals through innovative teaching, meaningful assessment, and quality instruction.
