In a momentous achievement, the University of San Agustin – College of Law (USA-COL) secured the championship title in the 2024 DivinaLaw-UST Philippine Jessup Cup. This victory leads USA-COL to represent the Philippines in the global rounds of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the world’s oldest and largest international moot court competition.

The Philippine National Rounds, sponsored by Divina Law and the University of Santo Tomas (UST), witnessed the participation of 21 teams from across the country. This year marked a historic milestone with a record-breaking number of teams, making it the largest tournament in the history of the Philippine Jessup Cup. The event unfolded from February 23 to 25 at the University of Sto. Tomas.

Facing off against the formidable Ateneo de Manila University in the championship, USA-COL emerged triumphant, earning the chance to represent the Philippines in the global rounds. Notably, this win reflects the dedication and preparation of the USA-COL team as they dethroned the University of the Philippines College of Law which had held the national title since 2018.

Individual excellence was duly recognized, with members of the team earning prestigious awards. Marco Giorgione Dava earned the Best Oralist of the Championship Round, while Ancel D’Cunha secured the 8th Best Oralist position in the Preliminary Rounds. The top four teams of this year’s competition—University of San Agustin, Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines, and University of San Carlos—will advance to the Jessup International Rounds in Washington, D.C., scheduled for April. Additionally, San Beda College Alabang School of Law will also participate as an Exhibition Team.

Hon. Josefe C. Sorrera-Ty, expressing gratitude, acknowledged the sacrifice of all participating teams, and solidified the commitment of all participants to the advancement of legal education and the legal profession in the Philippines.

The USA-COL Team has consistently excelled in various moot court competitions, not only showcasing their legal acumen on a national stage but also representing the Philippines in international arenas.

Bulahan, USA Law!
