ILOILO CITY – The University of San Agustin (USA) has earned national recognition for its excellence in teacher education, securing the coveted “Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (EQUATE) Award” from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The University of San Agustin stands among an elite group of just 120 higher education institutions (HEIs) receiving this inaugural award out of more than 1,500 HEIs nationwide. This recognition places the USA in the top 8% of educational institutions in the Philippines.
“This award is a recognition of your institution’s consistent upholding of the highest standard in ensuring the quality of pre-service teacher education programs, following the CHED minimum standards, program accreditation, and excellent performance in the Board of Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT),” stated CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III, DPA, in the official notification.
The University’s Teacher Education program, already designated as a Center of Development (COD), maintains its position among the country’s top-tier education programs. Out of 1,553 HEIs offering Teacher Education nationwide, only 36 hold the Center of Excellence (COE) designation, while 38—including San Agustin—maintain the prestigious Center of Development status.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila, and Dr. Regina Aileen May V. Vergara, Vice President for Academic Affairs represented the University at the awards ceremony by accepting the honor on behalf of University President Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA.
This achievement reinforces the University of San Agustin’s commitment to academic excellence and its pivotal role in developing highly qualified educators for the nation.
Congratulations to the University of San Agustin on this remarkable achievement!
