University of San Agustin Honored with Multiple Awards at 4th CHED Regional Quality Awards

ILOILO CITY – The University of San Agustin (USA) was honored with multiple prestigious awards at the 4th CHED Regional Quality Awards, as part of part of the Commission on Higher Education’s 31st Anniversary and 5th Higher Education Day celebrations, recognizing the institution’s outstanding contributions to higher education in Western Visayas.

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI presented USA with eleven awards during the ceremony held on Wednesday, May 28, at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, Central Philippine University, Jaro, Iloilo City.

Among the notable recognitions, the USA received the Outstanding Board Performance Award for achieving an exceptional 90.19% passing rate in the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination held in August 2024, for programs with 10-50 examinees.

The university was also honored for providing crucial support to CHED Region VI

endeavors, demonstrating its commitment to advancing higher education in the region.

The awards spanned various categories of institutional excellence:

Academic and Research Excellence:

  • Award for Excellence in Community Extension and Linkages
  • Award for Excellence in Research
  • Award for Excellence in Indigenous Peoples Education
  • Award for Excellence in Students’ Affairs and Services

Model Implementation Programs:

  • Model Implementers for STUFAP/CSP (Student Financial Assistance Programs/Comprehensive Student Program)
  • Model Implementers for SIKAT (Sistema ng Pagkakakilanlan at Kredensyal para sa Teknolohiya)
  • Model Implementers for Registrar’s Records

International Recognition:

  • World Rankings AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance) – receiving two recognitions in this category
  • Autonomous/Deregulated-Deregulated status recognition

The event aims to acknowledge the efforts and initiatives of higher education institutions in areas of instruction, research, and community extension, while recognizing CHED’s memorandum orders and related issuances.

Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA, President of the University of San Agustin, attended the ceremony along with other key officials from the university. The event also recognized CHED’s partner government and non-government agencies and institutions.

The CHED Regional Quality Awards program recognizes higher education institutions that demonstrate excellence in various aspects of academic operations, community engagement, and institutional governance. The awards are based on compliance with CHED memorandum orders and relative issuances of the Commission.

Adding to the university’s recent achievements, Mr. John Paul Mondejar from the University of San Agustin was elected as Public Relations Officer of the newly formed Western Visayas International Relations Officers (IRO) Council during the inaugural IRO Convergence held on May 27, 2025, at the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.

The historic convergence brought together representatives from over a dozen higher education institutions in Western Visayas to establish the region’s first IRO Council, aimed at fostering collaboration, enhancing academic mobility, and elevating the global profile of higher education in the region. USA’s participation and leadership role in this initiative further demonstrates the university’s commitment to internationalization and regional academic cooperation. (OCO)
