USA Civil Engineering Delegation Earns International Recognition at Global Civil Engineering Conference in Malaysia

  • July 27, 2026
  • News

The University of San Agustin (USA) further strengthened its international research presence as its Civil Engineering delegation successfully represented the University at the 2026 11th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Materials Science (ICCEMS) and the 2026 9th International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology (ICNST), held at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 15–19 July 2026.

Representing the University were Assistant Professor Vince Joefil Bandojo, RCE, together with Civil Engineering students Fraezha Dane Maghopoy Cayabyab, Graxianne Ysabel Navarro Olivarez, Chime Regan Santiago Bantang, and Christian Paul Padilla Baculinao. The delegation showcased the University’s growing research capabilities by presenting two innovative studies addressing contemporary challenges in civil engineering.

Assistant Professor Bandojo presented the paper “Development of an Arduino-Based Shake Table with IoT Monitoring for Seismic Simulation,” co-authored with Raf Jeanel Soldevilla Simonio, Josh Andre Mosquera Elisan, Aleah Gestuveo Laurilla, Arvin Ryan Obregon Palma, and Engr. Margarita Giner. The study demonstrates the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology with seismic simulation to develop a cost-effective platform for earthquake engineering education, research, and laboratory instruction.

Meanwhile, Fraezha Dane Maghopoy Cayabyab presented the research “Comparative Study on the Properties of Traditional and Bacillus-Integrated Concrete for PCCP in Tropical Climates,” co-authored with Graxianne Ysabel Navarro Olivarez, Chime Regan Santiago Bantang, Christian Paul Padilla Baculinao, Assistant Professor Vince Joefil Bandojo, RCE, and Assistant Professor Jemwel Aron, RChE. The study explored the use of bacteria-enhanced concrete technology as a sustainable and resilient alternative for Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) in tropical environments.

The paper “Comparative Study on the Properties of Traditional and Bacillus-Integrated Concrete for PCCP in Tropical Climates” has been accepted for publication in the Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering proceedings series published by Springer, which is indexed in Ei Compendex and Scopus, reflecting the quality and international relevance of the research.

Both studies were presented before an international audience of researchers, engineers, and academics, providing opportunities for scholarly exchange and collaboration while highlighting the University’s contributions to civil engineering research and innovation.

The conference likewise brought significant individual recognition to Assistant Professor Vince Joefil Bandojo, RCE. He served as an Invited Session Chair for Session 1: Structural Analysis, Seismic Performance, and Health Monitoring, was appointed as an Invited Technical Committee Member, and contributed to the conference’s peer-review process as a reviewer for five research papers. In recognition of the quality and impact of his research presentation, he was also conferred the Best Presentation Award for his paper, “Development of an Arduino-Based Shake Table with IoT Monitoring for Seismic Simulation.”

The delegation’s participation and accomplishments underscore the University of San Agustin’s continuing commitment to advancing research, innovation, and international engagement. They also reflect the University’s dedication to developing globally competitive faculty members and students who contribute meaningful solutions to contemporary engineering challenges while strengthening the institution’s presence in the international academic community.

These achievements exemplify the University’s enduring pursuit of Virtus et Scientia, demonstrating how Augustinian education fosters excellence in research, innovation, and service to society through meaningful scholarly contributions on the global stage.
