USA-CLASE Education Majors Embark on Teaching Journey at Third Pinning and Commissioning Ceremony

January 28, 2025 – The Education Department of the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education (CLASE) of the University of San Agustin celebrated the third Pinning and Commissioning Ceremony for its education majors, marking a significant milestone as they prepare to take on the role of practice teachers in various schools in the city.

The ceremony began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the university chapel, followed by the main event at the university auditorium. The education majors, christened Batch Aquila, joined by their proud parents and dedicated mentors, were officially pinned and presented as Augustinian Practice Teachers, signifying their readiness to embrace the challenges and responsibilities of the teaching profession.

Dr. Nenelyn de la Fuente, CLASE dean, warmly welcomed the attendees, setting the tone for the event. The highlight of the ceremony was the inspirational message delivered by Dr. Gilda Deguma, the Vice President of Academic Affairs of Northern Iloilo State University and a proud alumnus of the institution.

In her heartfelt speech, Dr. Deguma shared personal recollections of working with her mentors such as Dr. Isidoro Cruz, Dr. John Iremil Teodoro and Dr. Ma. Cecilia Alimen, and her experiences in research and practice teaching, offering valuable lessons for the soon-to-be teachers. The speech centered on the themes of dedication, perseverance, and excellence. “Always remember your mission to enlighten young minds,” Dr. Deguma emphasized. “Inspire them to be the best versions of themselves, help them maximize their potential, and be strong enough to overcome challenges.”

Dr. Deguma urged the practice teachers to strive for excellence, reminding them to “embrace excellence at all times” and reject mediocrity. She further encouraged the education majors to “pray hard, believe in your capabilities, make your mentors happy, make your parents proud, and stay humble.” Reflecting on the values of the institution, Dr. Deguma called on the students to “keep the spirit of being a true Augustinian” as they ascend beyond expectations and embrace their calling as educators.

The theme of the ceremony, “Ascending Beyond, Embracing Excellence,” resonated throughout the event. The formal proceedings concluded with the Oath of Augustinian Practice Teachers, where almost 70 education majors committed to uphold the values and mission of their chosen vocation.

Assistant Professor Rhane Magpantay, one of the mentors of the Education Department and CLASE, called the ceremony a resounding success. “It has always been unique & pivotal-a symbolic way to send off our practice teachers to fly high like an Augustinian eagle-ready to conquer the world of teaching,” she further states.

The university takes pride in its education students and is confident in their readiness to inspire and shape the future of the youth. This milestone not only honors their achievements but also reinforces the institution’s commitment to cultivating educators who embody core Augustunian values of unitas, caritas and veritas, The Education Programs are under the supervision of Dr. Ma. Delsa P. Gange, its academic supervisor, with Dr. de la Fuente as its dean. Dr. Rosalie Espartero and Mr. Frank Emboltura serve as the coordinators for the practice teachers.
