The College of Business (COB) of the University of San Agustin (USA) continues to advance its global engagement initiatives as Dr. Marivis Gangoso, Dean of COB, together with Ms. Charmaine Lyn Magapan, Academic Supervisor for the Hospitality and Tourism Management programs, participated in a familiarization trip to Guam, USA, from March 8 to 13, 2026.
The visit formed part of a strategic effort to explore and expand international academic partnerships, particularly in the areas of student mobility, internships, and short-term academic immersion programs. Organized in collaboration with key stakeholders, the trip provided Philippine academic leaders with direct exposure to Guam’s higher education institutions, notably the University of Guam and Guam Community College.
During the trip, Dr. Gangoso and Ms. Magapan engaged in institutional briefings, campus tours, and discussions with academic and administrative leaders. These interactions allowed them to assess program offerings, facilities, and student support systems while identifying potential pathways for collaboration in business, hospitality, and tourism education.
The delegation also benefited from introductions to key stakeholders facilitated by the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) Philippines, including institutional representatives and relevant government offices supporting education and workforce development. These engagements offered valuable insights into administrative processes, partnership frameworks, and support mechanisms necessary for successful exchange and internship programs.
The trip highlighted how academic study in Guam may be complemented by applied learning opportunities, cultural immersion, and community engagement through partnerships with local organizations. Such experiences are particularly aligned with the goals of the Hospitality and Tourism Management programs, which emphasize global competence and experiential learning.
Overall, the participation of USA representatives in the Guam familiarization trip underscores the University’s commitment to building meaningful international collaborations. By evaluating Guam’s higher education landscape firsthand, the initiative aims to foster long-term partnerships that will benefit students through expanded opportunities for global exposure, internships, and academic exchange. This initiative reflects the University of San Agustin’s continuing pursuit of excellence in internationalization, strengthening its role in preparing globally competent graduates ready to engage across cultures and borders.
