The University of San Agustin, through its welfare and outreach arm, the Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office (SACEO), mobilized a call among its alumni, personnel, students and benefactors to help and contribute in cash and in kind for relief operations to some of the most hard hit areas by the recent typhoon Odette (international name ‘Rai’) which left a trail of destruction in some parts of Visayas and Mindanao. Teaching and non-teaching personnel and generous individuals helped in the repacking of goods from December 26 until 28, 2021 at Sta. Monica Hotel/Dr. Henry Chusuey International Center which also served as the drop-off and receiving point for donations. In the early dawn of December 29, 2021, the team set for the distribution of goods left Dumangas Iloilo port for two Negros Island’s recipient-towns namely, Kabangkalan City in Negros Occidental and Bais City of Negros Oriental. The team, led by no other than the University President, Fr. Frederick C. Comendador, OSA with Frs. Ian V. Ragodon, OSA and Jonas M. Mejares, OSA, is spending until December 30 to distribute food packages good for 600 families in the two towns mentioned. Meanwhile, the University will also send cash donations for other two hard hit mission parishes of the Augustinians in Surigao del Norte — one located in Siargao Island and the ther is located in Bucas Grande Island.
