The University of San Agustin convened the Climate Forum: El Niño and Its Impact — Addressing the Climate Change Challenge in the Philippines on August 26, 2026, at the USA Auditorium, under the theme, “Stewards of Creation: Augustinian Youth Leading Climate Resilience Amid El Niño.” Iloilo City Councilor and USA alumnus Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna served as the keynote speaker.
Organized in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense Region 6, Iloilo City Government, Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ICDRRMO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), National Service Training Program Office (NSTPO), and USA-NSRC Reserve Unit, the forum tackled El Niño risks and community adaptation, centering on youth leadership in climate action.
Student panelists represented recognized University student organizations: Julius Caesar Indat (USA National Service Reserve Corps / USA-NSRC President), Zharina Mae Catolico (Girl Scouts of the Philippines), Marro Galvez (University of San Agustin Student Government / USASG President), Jason Benedict Pet (USASG Chief of Staff), and Sasskia Olde Casidsid (USASG Leadership and Learnership Advocacy Minister).
Participants included USA personnel, students, recognized University student organizations, barangay officials, and community representatives.
The forum underscored the importance of climate action, disaster preparedness, environmental stewardship, and meaningful youth participation in building resilient communities and responding to the impacts of climate change.
