Dr. Noel Peter Tan, Director of the Center for Advanced New Materials, Engineering, and Emerging Technologies (CANMEET) at the University of San Agustin, and a DOST Balik Scientist, has been honored as the recipient of the 2023 Atty. Rosendo and Luz J. Tansinsin Outstanding Chemical Engineer for Research and Development award by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineering (PIChE). This recognition was given during the 84th PIChE National Convention – 20th Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) Congress held at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City on September 4-9, 2023.
Dr. Tan’s groundbreaking contributions to nanotechnology in Western Visayas led to the establishment of the region’s first and only smart packaging laboratory. This achievement earned CANMEET the distinction of being recognized as the “Hub of Smart Nanomaterials” by the Institution Development Program (IDP) of the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). The IDP provided critical support for the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment housed within CANMEET.
